Akhal-Teke and Iberian Horse Workshop

Join me for this incredible week long adventure on San Juan and Whidbey Islands off the coast of Washington State September 19th - Sept 25th 2019

In this island paradise we will photograph the exotically beautiful, and versatile Akhal-Teke horse; arguably the oldest surviving cultured equine breed in the world, plus an outstanding variety of Iberian horses on Whidbey Island. I have also scheduled an afternoon on a privately chartered boat to photograph Humpback and Orca whales, lighthouses, and other wildlife and scenic wonders as we watch the sunset into the pacific.

The workshop will begin at 12:00 noon on September 19th. I suggest arriving the evening prior to ensure an easy group departure on the 19th. I will pick indivuals up at any of the following hotels: The Hampton Inn and Suites Seattle Airport, Country Inn & Suites by Radisson or the Double Tree by Hilton. We will travel as a group by van to Whidbey Island driving over the truly jaw-dropping Deception Pass Bridge, stopping for photos of course; before heading to our hotel in Oakharbor, a vibrant, historic waterfront town, within walking distance of shoping and dining. Later that afternoon we will spend a some time exploring the island taking a drive to Coupeville, the second-oldest town in Washington state, with more than 100 of its buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, visiting the Coupeville Warf and the Admiralty Head lighthouse before having a group dinner that evening.
We will begin photographing Iberian horses at sunrise the next morning. There will be 2 photographic sessions each day (the 20th & 21st) with the horses. We will photograph the horses at liberty, in the forest, next to and in a pond, and by a lovely Spanish barn. We will also capture some of those classic portrait images everyone loves. One session will be a costume themed shoot if we get some early morning fog.

Sunday Morning September 22nd after breakfast and checking out of our hotel we will make the short drive to Anacortes over the Deception Pass Bridge, and take the ferry to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. San Juan Island is well known for it's splendid vistas, saltwater shores, quiet woodlands, orca and humpback whales.  After checking into our hotel, we will drive to the south end of the island and visit America's Camp to look for foxes in the the area.  Mid-afternoon will be at your leisure. I will be available to those that have questions about Photoshop, business or marketing. We will depart the hotel at 2:30 pm for our sunset private whale watching cruise. While whales are our prime subject we will watch for dolphin, sea otter, harbor seals and bald eagles as we cruise the water.

The 23rd & 24th will be spent photographing the captivating and rare Akhal-Teke horse, at liberty, with and without traditional jewelry and tack. We have 64+ acres of amazing land to utilize as well as trip to the beach for fun in the surf and sand.

Wednesday the 25th of September we will check out of our hotel after breakfast for our ferry ride back to the mainland. I will drop everyone off either at the airport or one of the local hotels.
